mBIOTA Labs’ Clinical Trial on Palatable Elemental Diet Receives Top Honors at American College of Gastroenterology Conference

mBIOTA Labs is proud to announce that its clinical research abstract, “Organoleptic Acceptability of a Novel Palatable Elemental Diet Versus a Commercially Available Elemental Diet: A Prospective, Single-Blind Comparative Trial,” was awarded the prestigious Presidential Poster Award as well as the Outstanding Research Award in the Small Intestine Category at the American College of Gastroenterology Research Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This study, led by Dr. Ali Rezaie and a team of renowned researchers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in collaboration with mBIOTA Labs, assessed the palatability and compliance of mBIOTA Elemental™, a novel, palatable elemental diet designed to address the barriers of poor taste and low adherence associated with traditional elemental diets. In the prospective, single-blind trial, mBIOTA Elemental™ was compared to the leading market competitor, Vivonex Plus (Nestle, USA), with results that revealed groundbreaking levels of patient preference and compliance.

All 30 trial participants favored mBIOTA Elemental™ over the competitor in taste and overall organoleptic characteristics, achieving a 100% preference rate. Notably, the study showed that mBIOTA Elemental™ led to complete compliance among participants throughout the two-week therapy, a critical outcome for patients using elemental diets to manage gastrointestinal disorders such as Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and other complex GI conditions.

“Receiving these awards is a testament to the pioneering work of our research and development teams in collaboration with world-leading gastroenterologists. We are thrilled that mBIOTA Elemental™ is being recognized for its ability to make elemental diets more accessible and effective for patients,” said Nicola Wodlinger, CEO of mBIOTA Labs. “This achievement reinforces our commitment to transforming GI health management with innovative, patient-centered solutions.”

The mBIOTA Elemental™ study demonstrated significant improvements in patient satisfaction across all tested characteristics—appearance, smell, taste, aftertaste, and consistency—marking an essential advancement for clinical nutrition. With these results, mBIOTA Labs continues to lead the way in GI health innovation, offering a palatable, scientifically validated alternative to traditional elemental diets.
